NY and Broadway

It's been a month since I last posted anything in this blog - gosh, been so busy since we returned from NY. Now back to the topic...

I was lucky to have the opportunity to catch "A Little Night Music" and "Phantom of the Opera" shows when I was in New York, just a couple of weeks ago. They are 2 different shows so I will not compare them...

For "A Little Night Music", the reason we went to watch this is because of Catherine Zeta Jones (CZJ) and Angela Lansbury. I think that seeing them performing up close and personal does have a difference. There is no cuts in broadway show so if they screw up their lines, they just have to handle it there and then... So, it is different. Now, the storyline is simple and its genre is comedy. Both hubby and myself love it when Angela Lansbury's character appear hehehe... she's hilarious. She carried her character brilliantly with her occasional smirks and sarcastic remarks. The main character played by CZJ too is entertaining to watch. I was very surprised with Catherine's vocal ability although I've seen her in Chicago but like I've said earlier, a recorded or dubbed audio may not be as good as listening someone singing live with an orchestra. Her voice projection was good - although I think that at some low notes, her volume could have been improved as at certain parts, I could not hear what she was singing. Apart from that, she is as beautiful as anyone could imagine. At first, I thought that she had a zit on her forehead but after looking closer, that was the stage microphone... hehehe. The other characters in the show are equally funny... I like the girl who acted as CZJ's daughter too. A young talent indeed... she'll have a bright future ahead of her...

As for "Phantom of the Opera", our friend really wanted to watch this show and since both hubby and I have not watched it, we decided that why not... I remember trying to watch the movie version of this and I slept in the middle of it though hehehe... So, before the show started, I was hoping that it will not be a boring show. When we approached the theatre, I was surprised with the amount of people queued up to watch the show. A lot of Japanese kids too... maybe a school trip or something (lucky kids... was wondering how come our school didn't organise such trips last time hehehe...)

To those who have the opportunity to visit NY, don't miss the superb broadway shows... They are really worth watching...
