The Chenille Robe above is one of the items being recalled in the US due to the fact that its material is highly inflammable. Apparently, there have been 9 deaths involving this robe (sold by Blair LCC).
According to a website, the Blair robe recall announcement describes the recalled robes as follows:
The Women's Chenille Robes have the following item numbers: 3093111, 3093112, 3093113, 3093114, 3093115, and 3093116. The item number is identified on a label in the garment's neckline. The robe is a one-piece garment made of plush sculpted chenille, a shaped stand collar, and horizontal chenille front and back yolks and cuffs. The robe has a full-button front with seven matching button closures, long sleeves with self cuffs, a straight bottom with self hem, and two sideseam pockets.
The robe's sewn in label states: "100% Cotton, RN 81700, Made in Pakistan".
About 300,000 units of the garments are now recalled, including the full length women's chenille robes, women's chenille jackets, women's chenille lounge jackets, and women's chenille tops.
Some robes fail to meet federal flammability requirements and present a risk of serious burns to consumers if they are exposed to an open flame. All deaths happened when the victims were cooking and their robes caught on fire. The victims are mostly in their 70s and 80s, said CPSC spokesman Scott Wolfson. All nine reported deaths occurred before the April announcement of the recall. "This robe is highly flammable, flames travel quickly up the robe," said Wolfson. "It's a deadly risk to women."
I wonder whether what we are wearing when we are cooking is not 'safe' enough. When I mentioned this story to a friend, he said that maybe it is best to cook naked LOL... Well, if I were to have the body of a model, I may consider that LOL... and if I were to be living alone too... Unfortunately, the mere mortal in me may never be able to gain that much confidence *sigh* Time to hit the gym again la...
Till my next post, peace to all you models and mortals out there!!!
